Statement

of the Czech Rectors Conference on holding Graduation Exams in 2021

Prague, 8 March 2021 PDF

Czech Rectors Conference (CRC) rejects, for legislative, pedagogical and ethical reasons, the proposal to the factual cancellation of graduation exams in 2021 and their replacing with the so-called statutory graduation exam.

In addition to the fact that this radical and completely unprecedented change in the context of education in the Czech Republic would require significant legislative changes, the CRC also points out irreversible damages in the education system, whose sacrifices would be graduate students and subsequently applicants for the demanding higher education.

CRC considers similar proposals to be extremely irresponsible, unconceptual and, as a result, detrimental to the competitiveness of the young generation in the Czech Republic. CRC seriously appeals to the Government of the Czech Republic to resist populism and prevent gambling with the country's future.

With this statement, CRC also supports the open letter from representatives of secondary and primary schools dated 6 March 2021 addressed primarily to the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic.

Prague, 8 March 2021

On behalf of the Czech Rectors Conference
