Resolution

of the CRC Presidium on the Professors Appointment Changes

Prague, 8 January 2014 PDF

Czech Rectors Conference Presidium is extremely upset by the information that the proposed amendment to the Higher Education Act which would transfer the existing authority in the appointment of professors from the President of the Czech Republic to the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic was submitted to the Government of the Czech Republic on 8 January 2014. The CRC Presidium categorically refuses such an approach because it violates the Higher Education Act which imposes a duty to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to discuss all important proposals with representations of higher education institutions. Czech Rectors Conference repeatedly asks the Government not to adopt the prospective amendment to the Higher Education Act regarding the appointment of professors in haste, ad hoc and without considering wider legislative context. The Government without the confidence of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic should no longer initiate any changes to higher education legislation.
